family, Vacation

San Francisco 2017

Hello readers!  I apologize for taking so long to do a new post.  I just came back from Europe (actually it has been more than a week, but jet lag is for real) and I haven’t had a chance to organize my pictures.

I try to go on vacation once a year with my family, but this year I also went to Europe with my sisters.  I haven’t had a back to back trip in a while.  It was blissful but sure exhausting.  I spent the whole July and early August vacationing.  Don’t worry, I will have posts on the places I visited.  Now, let’s start with San Francisco.

This is my third time to SF but the last time I went was back in 2004.  I went with a few friends and also went to Napa Valley.  This time it was just a short 3 days trip, mainly to visit my husband’s friends whom we haven’t seen over 15 years.  We arrived in the late afternoon and just dined at Cheesecake Factory.  Then we went back to the hotel to rest up.

Believe it or not, I rarely eat dim sum in Vancouver but for some reason, I’m always down for Chinese food when I’m out of town.  The dim sums were pretty good, but it was pricey.  Actually, I think the reason is that our Canadian dollar is so weak, I find the food was rather expensive in SF.

One of my favourite dishes I like to order at dim sum is egg crisps.  It’s a Cantonese dim sum dessert made from a dough of eggs, flour, sugar, and lard.  Not many places make it well but this place, it’s perfect.

After dim sum, we went to the famous Painted Ladies.  I’m not a Full House fan, but I do enjoy the show.

We strolled down Chinatown (the oldest and largest Chinatown in North America).  There were plenty of eateries and souvenir shops.  If you need to kill time, it’s a good place to walk around.

My cousin recommended me to try the egg tarts at this bakery, but the line up was too long.  I guess I will have to wait till next time.

We went to Hog Island for dinner.  The food was pretty good.  There’s always a line-up, so make sure you go early or at least when you’re not hungry.

I don’t know what it is about carousels but I always take a pic of them.

The one thing I regret doing on this trip was NOT booking tickets to Alcatraz.  My husband and I are quite spontaneous people.  I didn’t realize tickets were sold out weeks in advance.  Another reason I have to go back to SF and no, I’m not into the night tour.  It’s too spooky.  Lol

As a coffee addict, I scoured the best place for coffee.  Blue Bottle did not disappoint.

My husband’s friend treated us to a nice, seafood dinner.  I haven’t had lobster prepared this way in a long time.  It’s a lobster salad with fresh fruits tossed with mayonnaise.

The following day, we ate Vietnamese food at Ben Tre.  Everything was delicious and the food came in a flash.

Of course, you can’t miss the iconic landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge.

Before we talk about my son’s hairdo, let’s talk about San Fran’s weather.  It’s not hot in SF, most of the time, it’s very windy, so be prepared to bring a light jacket.  I always bring a couple pair of long pants whenever I travel.  Now back to my son.  Many people asked if his curls are natural (and it’s not).  He loves his permed hair and we do too or are we just used to it. ;)

My husband said he has never been to Lombard Street, so we drove down the famous crooked street.

My husband’s friend recommended me to try Craftsman and Wolves.  They are known for the Rebel Within (a muffin with a poached egg in the middle).  Unfortunately, they were sold out by the time I got there.  I bought a couple of pastries and drinks.  Everything was yummy.

We drove by and saw these houses.  I thought it was cool, so I took a pic of it.

l always wanted to try Boba Guys just because I love bubble tea or boba tea.  This is their strawberry matcha latte. I highly recommend this drink.  It was very tasty.  Just make sure you stir the drink before drinking it.

And no one can say no to sushi.  This place was very good especially the Akagai (the two orange pieces on the left).  It’s like a red clam and tasted very sweet and has a soft texture.

So these are some of my pictures from my SF trip.  I will be posting more on my travel so make sure you check back.  Thank you for reading this long post!  Have a great day!

I have been following your food journey and also your trip through IG and looks like you had a brilliant time! I agree about our dollar is week in comparison to USD, I find it hard to buy anything in USD because it gets expensive quick. :-(

Mmm, I’m getting hungry! I’ve never heard of egg crisps and am curious about them now. I’ve been to San Francisco so many times but have to go to Ludlow and painted ladies as well next time too!
